Södertälje centrum (abbreviated Södertälje C) is a terminal station on Stockholm commuter rail, located in central Södertälje, 38.1 km from Stockholm Central Station. Lines J36 to Märsta and J37 to Gnesta start here.

Contents

The station opened for traffic in 1860 under the name Södertelge nedre. In 1926 it was renamed Södertälje centralstation, until it got the current name in 1994. The yellow station building was drawn by Folke Zettervall and was completed 1917.

History

Because Södertälje is very hilly, and split by the Södertälje Canal, it was hard to build good rail connections to and through the city. That notwithstanding Södertälje is one of the major rail hubs in Sverige.

The line became double tracked 2010-2013.
