Syed A. Hoda is a Professor of Pathology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University and an Attending Pathologist at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. Hoda is a surgical pathologist with a particular interest in diagnostic breast pathology. He is "Triple-Boarded": being certified in Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology; and has been re-certified by the American Board of Pathology twice (first in 2001, and then again in 2011).

Hoda graduated from the Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. After a year of a rotating internship in Civil Hospital in Karachi, he began training in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana (1985–1990) under Drs. Richard Reed and Michael Gerber. He served for a one-year period as Chief Pathology Resident at Tulane. Subsequently, he underwent sub-specialty fellowship training in Cytopathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City (1990–91) with Drs. Hajdu and Melamed among others; and another year of sub-specialty fellowship training in Oncological Surgical Pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center with Drs. Rosen, Rosai, Hajdu, Huvos and Lieberman among others of surgical pathology as his instructors.

Hoda has been associated with Weill Medical College of Cornell University and The New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center since 1992. Hoda has worked closely with Dr. Paul Peter Rosen, the legendary giant of breast pathology for over 20 years. He took over as the Director of Dr. Rosen's long-running ASCP Short Course on Needle Course Biopsy of Breast and has co-authored 2 books with him: Rosen's Breast Pathology (4th ed, publication date: March 2014) and 2 editions o Breast Pathology: Diagnosis by Needle Core Biopsy. He has served the Department of Pathology at Weill-Cornell in multiple capacities and oversees resident teaching in anatomical pathology. Hoda has contributed over original 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Hoda serves on the Editorial Boards of American Journal of Surgical Pathology, American Journal of Clinical Pathology, Advances in Anatomical Pathology and The Breast Journal- and he also serves as the Book Review Editor for American Journal of Clinical Pathology and Advances in Anatomic Pathology.

Hoda has been listed as one of New York Magazine's Best Doctors, including in 2013. He is also currently listed in the "Best Doctors in the USA" published by U.S. News & World Report. Hoda is included in Castle-Connolly's listing of Best Doctors in New York and in United States of America for several years

Hoda is especially interested in 19th century English literature, and his favorite authors include Lewis Caroll, Oscar Wilde and Somerset Maugham.
