Maine state senator susan deschambault sworn in seated in senate


Susan A. Deschambault (born November 25, 1947) is an American politician and retired law enforcement officer from Maine. Deschambault, a Democrat from Biddeford, won a special election for District 32 of the Maine Senate in March 2016. She replaced David Dutremble, who had resigned due to alcohol-related issues. She defeated Republican Stephen Martin 1,785 to 1,299.

In June 2016, Deschambault won the Democratic primary for the general election to be held November 8, 2016. She will again face Stephen Martin for the seat.

Deschambault retired from the Maine Department of Corrections, where she worked for 43 years. Prior to being elected to the state senate, she served two terms as a city councilor in Biddeford and was president of the Maine Association of Police for 21 years.
