In May 1989 county council elections were held in England, including those for Surrey County Council. Shown below are the results for the Guildford electoral districts on Surrey County Council.

One electoral division changed hands in these elections. The Conservatives gained Worplesdon from the Social and Liberal Democrats.

The Conservatives, Labour and the Social and Liberal Democrats each contested all nine of the electoral divisions in the Guildford area. The four electoral divisions in the town of Guildford itself (as opposed to the surrounding countryside) were contested by Green Party candidates. The predecessors to the Greens, the Ecology Party had contested two electoral divisions, in the Guildford area, in 1985. The four Green candidates appeared on the ballot without their party tag, due to the way in which their nomination papers had been filled out.
