Sugata is an epithet for Gautama Buddha. In Vaishnavism, Gautama Buddha is regarded as the 9th avatar of Vishnu. Some Vaishnavist schools argue that Sugata Buddha refers to the 9th incarnation of Vishnu, born in 1500 BC in Bodhi-Gaya (Kikata) to Anjana, being another person than Gautama Buddha.
