Noe "Such" Baez, otherwise known as Such Styles, born 1968 and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Such's Graffiti writing career officially began in 1983 after reading Craig Castleman’s book Getting Up. Intrigued by the extreme efforts and sacrifices that graffiti writers made for their art form, Such tried his hand at creating his own graphic identity. His initial canvasses were the walls which soon graduated to the freight cars that ran through Arizona, thus bringing forth the Graffiti Art culture to America's West.

Life

Such’s artistic endeavors caught attention to galleries from California to New York as well as museums and private collectors. His work has been on display at the Phx Art Museum as well as various galleries throughout Arizona. Several of his pieces can be found in a variety of permanent collections, including the Arizona Museum of Natural History, the Musical Instrument Museum and the Arizona State University Art Museum.

Growing up in a new housing development on the south side of Phoenix and experiencing the changes of the neighborhood, gang graffiti played its part as our local decor. I was always intrigued by its presence. I remember walking to grade school as a youngster in the early 1970s and witnessing different cholo-esque fonts appearing on the surrounding neighborhood walls--Old English lettering was most favored. (Quote by Such in Roger Gastman's & Caleb Neelon's The History of American Graffiti).

Such has also been in a number of collaborations with various artists including fellow Graffiti Artists such as Lady Pink, Lee Quiñones, John Matos, Ka One, Jero, and many others.

Today, Such legally practices his craft and is commissioned to create his signature wall pieces. His work has been featured in television, film and several publications. Such was hired by Fox Sports to create graphics for the televised Super Bowl XXII pregame show. He also is an instructor along with his son, Champ Styles, of Rag Collection's Raise Your Voice:Mural Crew, an after school group that teaches students to express themselves through art, at Alhambra High School in Phoenix, Arizona.

Over the years my aerosol journey has evolved to a place of release. When I am creating on a wall, I find sanctuary for my soul, a place of creation that ignites my spirit. I choose themes that entertain the eye, move the heart and become memorable. It has been decades of manufacturing affordable fun. Such
