Stodhart Tunnel is a 100-yard (91 m) tunnel on the Peak Forest Tramway at Chapel Milton, Derbyshire. Until May 2013, it was considered to be the earliest rail-related tunnel in the world, but is now believed to be pre-dated by Fritchley Tunnel on the Butterley Gangroad at Fritchley, also in Derbyshire. One portal was destroyed by a road re-alignment in 1949, but the other survives. It is Grade II* listed and on the Buildings at Risk Register. From the 1950s part of the tunnel and about 12 mi (0.80 km) of track was tar sealed and used to test Ferodo brakes. The tunnel was used to test the effect of humidity on brakes.
