Steven Brooks is an American former politician who served as a Democratic member of the Nevada Assembly. He represented District 19 from 2011 to 2012, and District 17 from February 4, 2013, to March 28, 2013. Brooks became the first lawmaker to be expelled from the Nevada State Legislature after he was arrested multiple times and hospitalized for a mental health evaluation. Prior to winning elective office, Brooks was a teacher.

Brooks was expelled from the Nevada State Legislature after House Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick said Brooks had threatened to kill her. Police found Brooks with a gun, which was not registered to Brooks, and 41 rounds of ammunition. Brooks was arrested a second time on charges of domestic battery. A third arrest came after Brooks led police on a high-speed chase through California after he was expelled from the legislature.

In 2014 and 2015, Brooks spent nearly a year and a half in prison after pleading guilty to charges of resisting a public officer with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Brooks said he was addicted to marijuana at the time of his arrest.
