Steve Phillips is a New York Times bestselling author, national liberal political leader, civil rights lawyer, and a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. Phillips is founder and chairman of PowerPac+. He is also founder of PowerPAC.org. Phillips currently splits his time between San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

Early Life

After graduating with honors from his high school, Phillips went on to attend Stanford University, majoring in English and Afro-American studies. He obtained his juris doctorate degree from Hastings College of the Law.

PowerPAC+

PowerPAC+ is a nonprofit advocacy group that strives to build political power of the nation’s "multiracial majority”, consisting of progressive whites and progressive people of color.

Brown Is The New White

His book Brown is The New White made the New York Times bestseller list in March 2016 and Washington Post bestseller list in February 2016.

Personal Life

In 1992 Phillips married Susan Sandler. In 2008, Phillips began competing in marathons in San Francisco and has completed 16 marathons. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and two cats.
