Steve Fox is an American politician and former member of the California State Assembly. He was a Democrat representing the 36th district, encompassing parts of the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, Kern County and San Bernardino County. Prior to being elected to the state Assembly, he was a public school teacher, an attorney and former Antelope Valley College trustee as well as a governing board member of the Antelope Valley Hospital and a Republican for 30 years. He ran for Assembly in 2008 as a Republican and lost the Republican primary to Steve Knight, who went on to win the general election.

Fox won his seat in 2012 by only 145 votes over Republican Lancaster City Councilman Ron Smith, taking the lead only the day before the swearing-in ceremony. He became the first Democrat to win election to the legislature in this area in 36 years, despite having been outspent in the election by more than 12 to one. In 2014, Fox sought a second term to the state Assembly, but lost to Palmdale City Councilman Tom Lackey by a 60% to 40% margin.
Fox ran again for the state Assembly against Lackey in 2016, however he lost by a slim margin.

-AB 1513, a bill that deters illegal squatting in residential real properties, was authored by Assemblymember Steve Fox, received bipartisan support from members of the Assembly Judiciary Safety Committee and passed by a margin of 9-1. “Homeowners in the Antelope Valley who have a squatter in their house bear the cost of not being able to lease or sell their home, as well as the cost of having to go to a court in downtown Los Angeles,” said Fox. “This program will give homeowners a local solution.” “Homeowners should have the right to remove a trespasser,” concluded Fox.
-AB 2085 the Traffic Ticket Amnesty Bill, was authored by Assemblymember Steve Fox, received bipartisan support and was passed by a margin of 13-2 by the Assembly Transportation Committee and was signed into law by the Governor. “The snowballing effect of delaying payment of a ticket makes the situation untenable for many,” said Fox. “This bill will help counties and those individuals who want to meet their obligations.”
Personal life
Steve Fox has been married for 32 years to his wife, Sharon Fox (a retired school teacher). They have two children, Rebecca Fox (a First 5 Los Angeles organizer) and Joshua Fox (a police officer), as well as three grandchildren, Victoria, Joseph, and Vivianna.
