Dr. Stephen M. Hahn, M.D., F.A.S.T.R.O. is the Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer of the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

In 2014, Hahn became the Division Head of Radiation Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston where he oversees the Departments of Clinical Radiation Oncology, Radiation physics, and Radiation biology. In 2017, Hahn was appointed as Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer of MD Anderson. He is an active clinician, with specialism in treating thoracic and genitourinary cancers and in the use of photodynamic therapy.


Hahn served as a senior investigator and commander in the National Cancer Institute’s U.S. Public Health Service from 1989-95. He served as chief of the NCI’s Prostate Cancer Clinic, Clinical Pharmacology Branch, in Bethesda, Maryland, from 1993–95. Hahn was a medical and radiation oncologist in Santa Rosa, California before joining the University.


In 1996, Hahn joined the University of Pennsylvania a radiation and medical oncologist, as well as an NIH-funded researcher. He served as the UPenn Henry Pancoast Department Chair until 2014. As Vice Chair for Research for the Department of Radiation Oncology at UPenn and Principal Investigator of National Cancer Institute grants, Hahn led the expansion of the department’s research base, which has consistently ranked first or second in NIH funding.


Hahn is a long-standing member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Hahn is also an active member of the Radiation Research Society, the American Society of Photobiology, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the University’s John Morgan Society. Hahn serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society for Radiation Oncology.
