The Stage Managers' Association, or SMA, is the only professional association for stage managers in the United States. It was founded in 1982 and is based in New York City, with members across the nation.

Many of its members are represented by Actors' Equity Association. The association also has members working professionally in other venues such as music, opera, dance and special events.

The SMA exists to Recognize, Promote, Educate and Advocate For -- members working as stage managers in the United States. Signature programs include Ask A Stage Manager, Operation Observation and A View From the Wings which is the name for their educational symposia. The SMA recognizes outstanding contributions to the field through the Del Hughes Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Stage Management as well as other awards and citations from time to time.
