History

Founded in 1964, in 1965 the College was shifted to its present site in Thumba, a few blocks from the Arabian Sea (St. Andrews Beach) in Thumba, a suburb of Thiruvananthapuram which is the capital of Kerala. The College was upgraded in 1977 when co-education began. In 2005 it became a Post Graduate College with the addition of an M.Sc. in physics.

The College sees as its mission to work for the educational and cultural emancipation of the surrounding marginalized community of fisher people and large sections of socially and educationally backward groups. Its aim is to train young men and women of quality, who would grow up as creative leaders and responsible citizens, in the service of the people. It has two units of the National Service Scheme (NSS), which strives to develop national consciousness and a sense of service among students, through unselfish deeds, kind and dutiful, for the people of the area.

Academics

Bachelor degrees all require 3-years: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and Botany & Biotechnology; Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in economics, history, and Malayalam with mass communication; Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.). The Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) in physics takes 2 years beyond the B.Sc & M.com
