St. Xavier's College, Dumka, was opened by the Society of Jesus in 2011, with a special focus on educating the tribals, Dalits, and women in the Santhal Pargana division of Jharkhand state in eastern India. It is affiliated with Sido Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka. St. Francis Xavier, for whom the college is named, was a founding member of the Society of Jesus and an early Catholic missionary to India. This is one of six colleges founded by the Jesuits in Eastern India between 2006 and 2012.

Programs

The College offers 10+2 classes in science, arts, and commerce, and the following 3-year specializations:

  • Science: mathematics, physics, chemistry, zoology, botany
  • Arts: English, economics, geography, history, political science, Hindi, psychology
  • Commerce: accounts, business law, company law, income tax, auditing
  • Vocational studies: marketing, finance, computer lab, company-based project training
  • There is a hostel facility for girls.
