St.John's Church (Azerbaijani: Müqəddəs İohann kilsəsi; German: St. Johanniskirche) — German Lutheran church located in Helenendorf, Azerbaijan.

History

First stone for St. John's Church laid in 24 April 1854 in Helenendorf, next to a parish school (completed in 1842). Church was completed in 10 March 1857 and was first Lutheran church in the area what is now Azerbaijan. Its first pastor was Georg Heinrich Reitenbach (1832-1840). It functioned as a church until 1941, when it was converted into a sports hall. During Second World War church was used as a military hospital.

Today

Since 2005, it is functioning as Goygol Local History Museum. Church was renovated and restored in 2008 by German Technical Cooperation Society.
