History

St. Ignatius College began in 1955 as a small school at the Church of Christ the King, under the name of Apostolic Pre-School Our Lady of Fatima. The following year it took the name Christ the King Day School but had semi-boarding. A new foundation was laid in 1960 and in 1963 the school moved into its current headquarters under the name St. Ignatius College.

Its directors have all been Jesuit priests:

Schools

Besides the primary, intermediate, and high schools, there is a kindergarten and a full-time-schooling option, with activities to fill the day: study time, help with homework, individual, recreational, and educational activities, bathing, lunch, and rest (optional), psychomotor learning, sports, computers, and English classes.

The night school was added in 1969 in response to what is seen as the just right to an education for the working poor. By 1972, it had 227 students and in 1977, tried working under contract with the state who paid teachers and staff. This proved troublesome and after 1980 the night school went completely private, and thrived. By 2010, a five-year course in primary education (EJA mode) and three-year course in secondary education (Modality Regular Education) were being offered. There is no fee for the elementary school offering and for high school fees are adjusted to the students' ability to pay.

Facilities and activities

Facilities include labs for physics, chemistry, and computer science, library, multimedia room, experimental kitchen, and chapel. Cultural activities include workshops in theater, circus, jazz, and ballet. Sponsored sports are badminton, basketball, futsal, judo, and swimming. Special projects include Enemzinho, God is with us, Fair of States and Nations, Who Loves Cares, LiterArt, Corujinha, and Cine Debate. Also provided are interactive computer lessons, vocational talks by representatives from various professions, a writing lab, visits to regular universities, and ENEM exam preparation.

To gain revenue to assist poorer students, the school made the parking spaces it owns a source of revenue. The school's courtyard has been renovated to accommodate 2,000 people for Mass, often celebrated by its headmaster Eugenio Pacelli, S.J. The school also sponsors public service lectures, as on the family.
