St. Eugene's Cathedral, Ciego de Ávila

The St. Eugene's Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral de San Eugenio; Catedral de San Eugenio de la Palma) also called Cathedral of Saint Eugene of the Palma or simply Cathedral of Ciego de Ávila is the name given to a religious building affiliated with the Catholic Church and is located on Independencia Avenue next to José Martí Park, in the city of Ciego de Ávila on the Caribbean island of Cuba.

The first temple built on the site dates back to 1890. This building was demolished in 1947 to give space to a much larger church. The project was commissioned the architect Salvador Figueras and was opened in 1951. In 1996 he received the status of cathedral. The element that most stands of the church is its facade.

Follow the Roman or Latin rite and is the seat of the Diocese of Ciego de Ávila (Dioecesis Caeci Abulensis) which was created in 1996 by bull "Universale Ecclesiae" by Pope John Paul II.
