St. Edward's Catholic Church was the first church in the United States to have electric lighting. The lighting was installed by Edison Illuminating Company. The church is located in Shamokin, Pennsylvania within the Diocese of Harrisburg.

Description

St. Edward's church burned down in 1971 and was rebuilt. The church was then renamed as the Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in 1995 when local Catholic Churches (former coal region parishes of Assumption BVM, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Edward the Confessor, St. Michael the Archangel and St. Stanislaus Kostka) merged. Mother Cabrini still is a fully functioning church.
