St Philomena's Catholic High School for Girls is a school for girls (aged 11–18) in Carshalton, South London, England. Ofsted praised the school as 'outstanding' and the Archdiocese of Southwark found the establishment to be 'a very strong school'., the chair of governors is Dr. M Howard, the Headteacher is Ms M Noone and the current Head Girl is Carmen Mackey.

History

The school was founded by the Daughters of the Cross in 1893 and is situated in twenty-five acres of parkland with some notable buildings. It used to be a college school for boys but later was transformed into a girls school. The main building on the property was once Carshalton House, a grand manor house built in the early eighteenth century by Edward Carleton. It was the home of the noted physician, Dr. John Radcliffe until his death in 1714.

In 2004, the school was awarded Technology College status. In April 2006, it was awarded a Language College status alongside the Technology College status. In 2007, a new Learning Resource Centre, including a library, was opened.

The school provide the ball girls for the Aegon Championships, held annually during June at Queen's Club, West Kensington, London. The school was featured in a music video by Travis, called Driftwood.

Pastoral Care

There are seven forms in each year each with a designated saint and house colour: St Teresa (Yellow House), St Catherine (Orange House), St Clare (Green House), St Bernadette (Blue House), St Monica (Purple House), St Rose (Red House) and St Angela (White House). In September 2016, an eighth form was added to Year 7, it will be known as St Cecilia (Cyan House). The forms in each year are named after famous civilizations, e.g. Assyrians & Egyptians, Greeks and Trojans, Athenians and Spartans, Medes and Persians, Carthaginians and Romans, Amazons and Iceni, Aztecs and Incas.

School uniform

The school uniform consists of a brown blazer, a brown, yellow and blue tartan kilt, a cream yellow blouse, cream socks and a brown jumper. Every student has the same bag and black or brown shoes.
