History
Built in 1933, on land given in 1932, with the chancel and sanctuary added in 1939, transept and vestries added in 1966, and tower completed in 1972. A church hall complex was added in 1982.
Recent controversy
The previous vicar, Revd Martin Howard was the subject of a church disciplinary measure; a complaint of adultery was upheld. Mr Howard resigned his post at st Mary's and has been prohibited from ministry for five years. Mr Howard spoke publicly about the virtues of marriage, and was quoted in as saying: "Society is much stronger when marriage is promoted, honoured and protected."
