Sri Aurobindo's Rourkela School is located in Sector 5, Rourkela, Odisha, India. It is a senior secondary school established in 1973. It operates under the auspices of Sri Aurobindo Yoga Mandir, an ashram based in Kathmandu, Nepal. The school educates up to twelfth grade (class XII). The school name “Sri Aurobindo’s Rourkela School, Rourkela” was established according to The Mother's handwritten name.

Contents

The school started as a Study Circle in a single room in the Ispat Library on August 15,1961, with the blessing of the Mother. Since then, the organization experienced strong growth, becoming a registered spiritual organization in 1969. An executive committee of eleven members manages the affairs and develops the organization with a view to spreading the message and teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. The Relics of Sri Aurobindo were installed on April 13th, 1988, on the premises of Yoga Mandir.

The Mother's message

No Words act. It is the Divine Presence that gives value to life. This Presence is the source of all peace, all joy, all security. Find this presence in yourself and all your difficulties will disappear.

Methodology

The members sought to start an Integral Education School to impart the teachings of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo in order to develop the mental, physical, psychic and spiritual aspects of a child. A prayer was accordingly placed before The Mother, in 1972. The Mother gave permission for the school and named it Sri Aurobindo's Rourkela School.

The school was granted affiliation with the Council for ICSE, New Delhi, in 1988 and admitted its first class 10th Std. in 1989. To date, 25 classes of students have stood for final ICSE Exams with a passing rate of nearly 100% each year. Class size grew each year. The present entering class numbers over 575 students. +2 stream was started in 2009.

Facilities

The school's facilities include a library, laboratory, and facilities for competitive athletics as well as yoga, karate and other co-curricular activities. The water room has an aqua guard and proper sanitation. The school has a fire-extinguisher system.

Parade

The school always won 1st position till date in the ceremonial parade which is organized by SAIL, RSP in Ispat Stadium, sector – 6.

Faculty

The school has sufficient teaching aids. The faculty includes 34 qualified and trained teachers and 8 supporting staff.
