Spanish Valley, Utah

Spanish Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Juan County, Utah, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 181. But on almost all maps of the area, and especially in local usage, the name identifies the geographic valley that extends south of the city of Moab. The majority of the valley, and the majority of the population living in it, lies within Grand County the northern neighbor to San Juan County. Only the southern-most third of Spanish Valley lies within San Juan County, and it is the least populated.

Geography

Spanish Valley is located at 38°29′17″N 109°26′15″W (38.487944, -109.437460).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.3 square miles (36.9 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 181 people, 74 households, and 54 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 12.7 people per square mile (4.9/km²). There were 78 housing units at an average density of 5.5/sq mi (2.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.24% White, 2.21% Native American, and 0.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.10% of the population.

There were 74 households out of which 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.5% were married couples living together, 8.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.85.

In the CDP, the population was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 115.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 114.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $50,208, and the median income for a family was $51,250. Males had a median income of $42,083 versus $26,250 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $21,891. None of the families and 2.8% of the population were living below the poverty line.
