South Johnstone is a small town in north Queensland, Australia. It is approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) south-west of Innisfail and is within the local government area of the Cassowary Coast Region. At the 2011 census, South Johnstone had a population of 411.

History
The town was called Basilisk until 1954, when it was officially renamed South Johnstone after the South Johnstone River. The river was named by George Elphinstone Dalrymple in honour of Robert Johnstone who accompanied him on an expedition in 1873.
