Sonic Boom is Canada’s largest independent record store. Opened on May 16, 2001 in Toronto by Jeffrey Barber, this 13,000-square-foot (1,200 m2), two-level shop houses thousands of new and used vinyl records, CDs, cassette tapes and DVDs,as well as a growing assortment of books, new and vintage t-shirts, turntables, music accessories and lifestyle product.
Sonic Boom buys and sells previously owned CDs, DVDs, LPs, and cassette tapes and has an extensive stock of new products arriving daily. Their staff is highly knowledgeable in all genres of film and music.
The store is well known in Toronto for its large scale window displays created by in-store artist Tim Oakley showcasing staff-curated new releases. Oakley also hand silk-screens all Sonic Boom t-shirts, tote bags and event posters. Sonic Boom occasionally holds free all-age shows during store hours with locally and nationally known artists from a wide variety of genres. Every show is commemorated by a hand silk-screened limited poster given to attendees for a donation to a local charity.
In October 2014 Sonic Boom relocated to 215 Spadina Ave.
