Sleepaway is the debut album by the Buffalo, New York, indie rock band Sleepaway released by No Milk Records.

General

The album was released in the United States on June 6, 2006 and was recorded from December 2005 to January 2006 at Watchmen Studios in Lockport, New York. Alan Douches mastered the album at West West Side in New Windsor, New York. Doug White recorded, mixed, and engineered the album with production by White and the members of the band.

Sleepaway was released in Japan by Fabtone Records on July 5, 2006, with two bonus tracks.

The album comes with a slipcase featuring the artwork commonly associated with the album, while the front cover of the insert features a more distorted version of the slipcase artwork. The artwork was designed by Greg Edgerton and Kyle Kraszewski. Album photography was done by Chris Skerstad.

Lyrics

According to a lyric feature written by the album's principle song writer Alex Tiberia, the lyrical content of the songs is semi-autobiographical. In the feature, Tiberia discusses the lyrics' themes of relationships, distance and change.

Critical reception

Although few music authorities reviewed the album, those that did review Sleepaway gave it high marks. UpBeetMusic.com called the album "nothing shy of stunning" while Smother Magazine stated that "silky smooth guitars complement the vocal harmonies well and glisten it with a shiny veneer of talented songwriting." Smother Magazine also chose Sleepaway as its editor's pick. MusicEmissions.com gave the album 3.5/5 stars.
