Silver trifluoromethanesulfonate, or silver triflate is the triflate salt of silver. Since the triflate anion is weakly coordinating, it is useful as a halide abstraction reagent. This is similar to other silver salts, e.g. the tetrafluoroborate and the hexafluorophosphate. It is useful in activating sulfur protecting groups at the anomeric centres of carbohydrates, in presence of iodine/NIS.
