"Silêncio e tanta gente" ("Silence and so many people") was the Portuguese entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1984, performed in Portuguese by Maria Guinot.

The song is a ballad, with Guinot musing on life's character. She sings that it is sometimes only the silence which enables her to establish what she wants to say, and likewise it is sometimes only in a crowd that she finds where she wants to go.

The song was performed nineteenth on the night, following Italy's Alice and Battiato with "I treni di Tozeur". At the close of voting, it had received 38 points, placing 11th in a field of 19.

It was succeeded as Portuguese representative at the 1985 Contest by Adelaide with "Penso em ti, eu sei".
