The shocker first appeared in the original first edition Fiend Folio (1981).
The shocker appeared in second edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in the Monstrous Compendium Fiend Folio Appendix (1992). The contented one shocker and the sojourner shocker appeared for the Planescape setting in Planescape Monstrous Compendium Appendix III (1998).
The shocker appeared in third edition in the adventure Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil (2001).
