"Ships" is a rock ballad written and originally performed by British musician Ian Hunter. The song was first released on Hunter's fourth solo album, You're Never Alone with a Schizophrenic in 1979. The song is said to be about Hunter's relationship with his father.

Cover Versions

"Ships" was later recorded by singer Barry Manilow for his sixth studio album, One Voice. His version peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
