Sherrard is a village in Mercer County, Illinois, United States. The population was 640 at the 2010 census. Sherrard is home to the Sherrard Junior / Senior High School, home of the Sherrard Tigers.

Geography

Sherrard is located at 41°19′6″N 90°30′19″W (41.318470, -90.505396).

According to the 2010 census, Sherrard has a total area of 1.162 square miles (3.01 km2), of which 0.93 square miles (2.41 km2) (or 80.03%) is land and 0.232 square miles (0.60 km2) (or 19.97%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 694 people, 271 households, and 201 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,658.2 people per square mile (638.0/km²). There were 276 housing units at an average density of 659.5 per square mile (253.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.27% White, 0.14% African American, 0.43% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.14% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.59% of the population.

There were 271 households out of which 34.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.5% were non-families. 22.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the village, the population was spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $47,171, and the median income for a family was $52,604. Males had a median income of $35,455 versus $21,304 for females. The per capita income for the village was $18,967. About 4.6% of families and 5.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.6% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
