Why we need new models of the economy
Sheri Markose is a professor in economics at the University of Essex, where she holds a personal chair since 2006, and is the founding director (2002-2009 July) of the Centre for Computational Finance and Economic Agents (CCFEA) at Essex. At CCFEA, she pioneered PhD and Masters programs in Agent-based computational economics, financial market modelling with extreme events and markets as complex adaptive systems. She also led the Essex component of a European Union project on Computational Optimization Methods in Statistics, Econometrics, and Finance. This research relating to systemic risk in financial networks was presented at the October 2009 ECB workshop and IMF Conference on "Operationalizing Systemic Risk Monitoring" 26-28 May 2010.
