Shahriyar Kabir (Bengali: শাহরিয়ার কবীর) is a Bangladeshi author and journalist. He has been writing fiction books for children for decades.
Career
Shahriyar is a human rights activist. He is the head of the Nirmul Committee. He has been arrested on November 22, 2001. He was later released on bail. But he was arrested again on December 2002. The arrest was declared illegal by a Division Bench of the Bangladesh High Court on 4 January 2003.
On August 28, 2000 Shahriyar was attacked on the way home from Dhaka University and stabbed in the face and right hand.
Shahriyar was a freedom fighter under Sector Nine during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
