In Catholic theology, sententia probabilis refers to beliefs which are considered probable but not theologically proven. They are viewed as well-founded and in agreement with the principles of faith, but not theologically certain. These are more certain than opiniones toleratae and but less certain than sententia communis. Those sententiae probabiles which are considered "in agreement with the consciousness of the Faith of the Church" are called sententia pia (pious opinion).
