The Security Industry Registry is a corporate service provided by the New South Wales Police Force and is responsible for the administration of the Security Industry Act of 1997 and Security Industry Regulation of 2007 by delegation by the Commissioner of Police.

The Security Industry Registry (SIR), is responsible for the licensing of security officers, staff and all others who perform security duties. It also handles complaints about security officers and monitors the performance of security companies.

The SIR has introduced a Public Register of Licences providing details of the current status of security, and commercial and private inquiry agents' licences.
