Scott Vanstone Award Lecture; Rump Session
Scott A. Vanstone was a cryptographer who co-authored the Handbook of Applied Cryptography. He was on faculty at the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Mathematics and was a member of the school's Centre for Applied Cryptographic Research. He was also the founder of Certicom. In 1998, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Academy of Sciences. Vanstone had a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Waterloo and received the university's award for Excellence in Research. He died on March 2, 2014 after a short illness.
