The wingspan is 22–25 mm for males and 24–37 mm for females. The forewings of the males are ochreous with dark fuscous markings. The hindwings are white, with fuscous suffusion in the costal half. The forewings of the females are white, suffused with pale ochreous. The hindwings are white with an ochreous white anal tuft.

The larvae feed on Saccharum species and possibly Eleocharis dulcis. They bore into the stems of their host plant.
