It was renamed South Clifton on 3 October 1888 and again to Scarborough on 1 October 1903. It was relocated to its present site when the line was duplicated in 1915. A yard formerly existed south of the station for the South Clifton Colliery. North of Scarborough the double line becomes single to pass through Coalcliff Tunnel.
