A stolen life the sarah root story
Sarah Root (May 1, 1994 – January 31, 2016) was an American woman who was killed when a vehicle that was involved in a street race slammed into her car as she waited at a stop light in Omaha, Nebraska. The vehicle that killed Root was driven by Eswin Mejia, an illegal immigrant from Honduras. Mejia, whose blood alcohol was three times the legal limit, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide. He was later released on $50,000 bail and subsequently disappeared. Donald Trump, the Republican Party nominee for President of the United States in the 2016 election, when speaking of illegal immigration to the United States, referred to her death in his speech at the Republican National Convention on July 22, 2016.

Root was born on May 1, 1994 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She graduated from Bellevue University, with a GPA of 4.0.

In June 2016, U.S. Senators Joni Ernst, Deb Fischer, Charles Grassley, and Ben Sasse introduced "Sarah's Law", legislation in honor of Sarah Root.
