Samandar is a TV show based on the Indian Navy, which premiered on the Doordarshan network in 1994. The 25 episode patriotic show was made by the team of Wing Commander Anup Singh Bedi VSM,(Retd) supported by well known musician/singer Col (Dr) Sultan Singh Malik from army.
The cast includes bollywood/tv personalities such as Vineeta Malik, Samir Soni, Girish Malik, Aman Verma and others, with special appearances by real Indian Navy officers. The visuals had breathtaking manoeuvres and pictures of Indian Naval fleet.
The title song of the show "Samandar ki hasin lehron ke kaamil hukmaraan hain hum..." (by composer/singer Col S S Malik), was very popular including in neighbouring nations.
Unexpected use of template {{3}} - see Template:3 for details. Malik sang the title number composed as martial music with a motivating beat in his distinct style. The typical hindustani lyrics were meaningful and heart touching. The title song took the TRP of Samandar to most popular list in 1995-96. He has done a lot of work for Indian army martial and patriotic music, showcasing life in the defence forces. His theme songs are sung through out the armed forces. He has also sung for other Bollywood heroes like Kanwaljit Singh in Anmol Rishtey (TV film), and other tv series like Aadarsh, Parwaaz and Paasban. He was specially invited to sing in Meri Awaaz Suno DD programme. His solo Album -Bahut dino ke baad... by Sultan was released by Natraj Music Company in 2016.
