Salvadoran presidential election, 1984

Winner

José Napoleón

Presidential elections were held in El Salvador on 25 March 1984, with a second round on 6 May. The Salvadoran people elected a new president, together with a vice-president, for a five-year term. The result was a victory for José Napoleón Duarte of the Christian Democratic Party.

The elections took place against the backdrop of the Salvadoran Civil War, but were considered to be the freest and fairest presidential election since 1931.
