Sadashiv Pethi is a term used to criticize mainstream Marathi literature. It implies literature created by the upper caste (mainly Brahmin) Marathis, particularly from Sadashiv Peth—a geographical location in Puna District (Maharashtra). This area of Puna District was a stronghold of the former Brahmin rulers Peshva. Critics claim that this type of literature is self-obsessed, highly individualist and ignorant about the pain of the vast majority of the masses.
