The SS Police Regiment Brixen was a security formation of the Nazi German Police (the Ordnungspolizei) which existed for approximately 18 months between 1943 and 1945. The unit was formed from ethnic Germans living in Italy and was a "sister" regiment to the SS Police Regiment Bozen. The unit was attached for operational purposes to the 15th SS Police Regiment, which was the regular SS garrison security formation assigned to the Italian Social Republic.
The Brixen unit operated primarily in northern Italy along the Alps, mainly involved in anti-partisan duties. The unit was disbanded in early 1945, just weeks before the final capitulation of German forces in Italy.
Senior Order of Battle
The overall military command which encompassed the corresponding SS units was the German 14th Army under the command of Generaloberst (Colonel General) Eberhard von Mackensen who in turn answered to Field Marshal Albert Kesselring, considered the highest-ranking German commander in the Italian theater.
