SRM Nightingale Higher Secondary School in Chennai, India, is also known as Florence Nightingale School.

SRM Nightingale Matriculation Higher Secondary School was founded in 1969. It was taken over by SRM in 1981. It was among the first institutes under the banner of the Valliammai Society.

Having run education programmes at the secondary and higher secondary school levels, the Valliammai Society started university level programmes, leading to graduate and post-graduate degrees at the institutions of the SRM Group.

The school has laboratories, a library, and computers. The school runs a branch at Ashok Nagar.

Valliammai Society

The SRM University is part of the 35-year-old SRM Group of Educational Institutions, sponsored by the Valliammai Society. The Valliammai Society was founded by Thiru. T. R. Pachamuthu, an educationist, in the name of his mother Tmt. R. Valliammai.

The Valliammai Society runs educational institutions under the SRM (Sri Ramasamy Memorial) Group, named after his father, Thiru. Ramasamy. Thiru. Pachamuthu, the Chairman, SRM Group of Institutions, beginning his career as a teacher, now serves the community as a Chancellor. Thiru. Pachamuthu, Chairman of the Valliammai Society is assisted by Thiru. P. Ravi as the Co-Chairman, Thiru P. Sathyanarayanan as the Vice-Chairman, Dr. R. Shivakumar as the Secretary and Tmt. Easwari Pachamuthu as the Treasurer of the Society.

The Valliammai Society began its educational activities in 1969 by starting a Primary School in the name of Florence Nightingale and upgrading the status to Matriculation Higher Secondary School in 1981. In 1984, SRM ventured into higher education with the launch of the Valliammai Polytechnic. The year 1985 saw the birth of the SRM Engineering College, the flagship institution of the group.

During 1992-93 the Group ventured into medical education and started SRM College of Nursing and SRM College of Pharmacy. During 1993-94 two more medical institutions namely SRM School of Nursing and SRM College of Physiotherapy were added. During the same year, the Group entered into hotel management education. The SRM Institute of Hotel Management was started in 1993, having two campuses, one at Chennai and the other at Tiruchirapalli. Each campus of these institutes has a hotel attached it.

In 1993 SRM Arts and Science College was added to the group. In 1995, the SRM Dental College was launched,with a dental hospital attached to the college. In 1996 the Valliammai Polytechnic received much-needed relief with the launch of a sister institution, the SRM Polytechnic. In 1996 Thiru Pachamuthu opened another engineering college in the name of his wife and called it Easwari Engineering College.

In the same year the SRM College of Occupational Therapy was added to the Group of Medical Educational Institutions. In 1997 the group made an entry into north India with the launch of the SRM Institute of Management and Technology in Delhi. In 1999 the Valliammai Society added a third engineering college in the name of Valliammai Engineering College.
