Sona Sarkisyan (Armenian: Սոնա Սարկիսյան, born July 18, 1973) is an Armenian solo-singer.

Biography

Sona was born on July 15, 1973 in Yerevan. Her solo career began in 1991 when she was 18 years old. In the same year she participated in the competition “Morning star” and qualified to final stage. In 1991 she also recorded her first album “Sona”, which was released in Spain. She also released her 2 videos “Back to the Ancient World” and “Stay with me”. During this time, she cooperated with producer I. Prigojini. From 1992 to 1994 she had a solo concert at “Moskvorechie” Culture Home, participated in Boris Moyiseev’s project “Boris Moiseev and His people” in the role of “Lady Jazz” and was nominated as the Best Rock Singer of the music contest “Ovacia”. In 1996 she played a role in M. Dovlatyan’s movie “Our Yard.”

In 1997 Sona along with a number of Armenian jazz devotees, reset the State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia under the leadership of Kostantin Orbelyan. Armen Martirosyan was ordained as artistic director of the orchestra, and Sona as the soloist of the orchestra. In 1997 Sona played a role in “Our Yard 2”. In 2005 Sona she participated in the TV project “Yerevan - Moscow transit” with famous Georgian singer Soso Pavliashvili. In December of the same year the music video of her song “Vsyo proydet (Everything will Pass)” was recorded (director Alan Badoev). Sona also took part in such talk shows as “Private lives” (RTR), “Celebrity dinner” (Public television of Armenia which was broadcast in 75 countries), “To you, my love”, “Disputed Territory” (MIR). In April 2006, she recorded a new video on her new song “Serdce plachet (Heart Cries)” directed by Sergey Gorov. At the end of 2006 Sona performed a duet with world famous “ Manolo Gipsy Gitanes” and released the video of song “Luna en el anima”. It has been broadcast on Mexican, Italian, and USA TV channels. In December 2007, she performed a duet with Sergey Penkin in the project of “Yerevan - Moscow transit 4”. She also performed a duet with Boris Moyiseev at the concert devoted to Arno Babajanyan’s 85th anniversary at State Kremlin Palace. She also performed with Boris Moyiseev within the concert “Soundtrack” and in “Ladies and Gentlemen” jubilee project March 2007. In 2008, before releasing her album “Vsyo proydet ”, Sona had a concert in the State Variety Theatre of Moscow. In the same year, the singer took part in the final gala concert of the project “ You are a superstar” (NTV) and recorded “If you love…” “Artefact” movie soundtrack (music and lyrics P. Kashin). Sona has participated in Kostantin Orbelyan’s concerts in Moscow and Karabakh. In Minsk, she was a jury member of the festival “Karot”. She performed a duet with Mher at a concert devoted to Arno Babajanyan’s 90th anniversary (State Kremlin Palace). Sona was an honored guest in the project of “Armenian Comedy Awards 2012” at Rossia State Concert Hall on August 3 and 4. In 2012 she had a concert with a legendary singer Manolo (Gipsy Gitanes) in German “Hervest festival”.

In 2013 Sona was coach in “The voice of Armenia”, which was broadcast on the Armenia TV Channel. Meri Mnjoyan, who was one of the members of Sona’s team, became the winner of the project. Later in In 2014, Raisa Avannesyan also from Sona’s team became the winner of The Voice of Armenia. In 2015, Sona also performed a duet “Do what you do” (directed by Aren Bayadyan) with Kevin McCoy (Bad boys blue). The song was on Russian and foreign radio and TV channels. In Grozny, she had a concert devoted to disabled children, for which the singer was awarded the prize “Misfortune has no nationality”. She was invited to Moscow to participate in “The prize of Union of Armenians in Russia” and was also awarded the prize “Soglasie”. Sona had a number of concerts in Moscow. In 2016, among the surprises is also the premiere of the new song and the video of Sona’s and Manolo’s (Gipsy Gitanes) song which is titled Baila Soledad. It had its premiere in Moscow, Kremlin at Tashir show 2016. Later in April she presented her new music video "You are my life" together with famous Armenian singer Mger Armenia.
