SHIVA Charity was established in 1995 in order to promote education in Nepal and Sri Lanka. It rebuilt 28 tsunami destroyed nursery schools in Sri Lanka, and is helping about the same number of infant/junior/secondary schools in Nepal. Apart from rebuilding, SHIVA Charity is involved in helping the general monthly finances of maintaining and running schools, teachers' pay and equipment. However its biggest concern is to provide Resources training for teachers so that they have the ability to teach in a more creative, and child- centred way, giving children the opportunity to develop self confidence, and to enjoy the experience of education, rather than the "chalk and talk" formal way of instruction.

SHIVA Charity has developed lessons and resources to distribute to its schools in Nepal and Sri Lanka, and it hopes in the next few years to extend its activities to other countries. The founder of the charity, Bob Uppington, is an experienced teacher who has been in charge of curriculum development in UK schools, and now is using his expertise to develop an appropriate creative curriculum for schools in Asia.

The SHIVA Charity web site, www.shivacharity.com, has photos and video of this work in progress. Each video is of a different school in a real teaching situation, where a class is learning a creative activity. The web site is also a mine of information about practical lessons in English, Maths, and Craft.

NOW THE CHARITY IS INVOLVED IN HELPING THE HOMELESS IN NEPAL AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE> BOB UPPINGTON ALSO THERE WHEN IT HAPPENED APRIL 25th 2015, AND IS STAYING FOR FIVE MONTHS TO HELP! SHIVA Charity is building temporary homes and schools as well as providing food packs and tents.
