SALGA NYC is an organization dedicated to improving the awareness and acceptance of LGBT people of South Asian origin in the New York City metropolitan area. The group has been repeatedly denied the right to march in the Indian Day Parade. As a result, the group has held regular protests that coincide with the India Day parade to raise awareness of LBGT exclusion from India Day Parade activities. The group was finally included in the 2010 parade.
Previously known as the South Asian Lesbian and Gay Association, to be more inclusive of the South Asian Bisexual and Trans Communities, SALGA is now known as its acronym and not the extended version of its name.
