São Toméan legislative election, 2010

A legislative election was held in São Tomé and Príncipe on 1 August 2010. It was first planned for 21 February, but was then postponed.

The President of São Tomé and Príncipe, Fradique de Menezes, announced on 17 March 2010 that legislative election would be held on 1 August 2010.

Results

According to preliminary results from 2 August 2010, the opposition Independent Democratic Action won a plurality of seats (26) of the 55 up for grabs. Prime Minister Joaquim Rafael Branco's MLSTP-PSD came second with 21 seats. Third was PCD, a member of the ruling coalition, with 7 seats. President Fradique de Menezes's MDFM-PL got only one seat. Turnout was reportedly very high at almost 88%.
