Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Eric Rignot, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, geophysicist; uses field and remotely sensed data to study Antarctic glacier mechanics from the 1990s to the present.
