Born on 12 March 1954, Hon. (Dr.) Richard Winfred Anane who hails from Santasi in the Ashanti Region is Ghana’s longest serving Member of Parliament, having been an MP for the past 17 years. Representing Nhyiaeso constituency, Hon. Anane who is a member of the New Patriotic Party (the main opposition party at the moment) was first elected as an MP in 1997 and since then, he has remained in the parliament.

Career

The astute parliamentarian has a rich political pedigree and has served in Government in some key Executive capacities, such as being the Health Minister under the administration of former President, John Agyekun Kufour and he has also served as the Minister Of Roads and Transport.

A medical doctor by profession after having bagged an MB CHB from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Kumasi, in 1983, Dr. Anane was the doctor of Hebron Clinic, Bantama before he became an MP in 1997. Dr. Anane a Christian (Catholic) is married with four children and he obtained 36,067 votes out of the 47, 535 valid votes cast, representing 75.9% of the total votes cast in the last elections in 2012, exemplifying his popularity in his constituency.
