Richard Du Cane, M.P. (13 October 1681 – 3 October 1744) was the Member of Parliament for Colchester (Essex) from 1715 to 1722. Du Cane was from a leading Essex family of merchants and politicians having distinguished Huguenot descent. The son of Peter Du Cane, the elder and Jane Booth, he married Anne Lyde, daughter of Nehemiah Lyde and Priscilla Reade on 17 August 1710. A prominent businessman in the City of London, Du Cane served as a director of the Bank of England. His portrait is one of the well known paintings of Ignaz Stern.
